Fall Style Challenge Week 4!

What a fun challenge this has been! The outfits have been a lot of fun and I’ve found some new favorite pieces as a result. The Facebook group has been HUGE but so much fun with so many ladies posting. And the blog link-up has been great too! So, here are my last several looks.

Day 17

image image

I got to break out my faux leather striped leggings! I thought this outfit was so cute and fun! The pieces are actually all pretty new too.

The cardigan and top are both from Maurice’s. I love burgundy this fall. If I see something burgundy I basically want it…now. My leggings are from JCP. I can’t find the exact ones online, but these are pretty similar. Shoes are from Target.

I like all the fun details going on. I think it’s a lot of fun without being too much. It would be a great going out outfit too- especially with some heels!

Day 18

So…more burgundy! I LOVED this outfit. I made a few alterations to the prescribed outfit- like changing out jeans for colored skinny pants and adding the cardigan but I think it came together so well. This may be my favorite look of the challenge and I have the Facebook group to thank! I was inspired by this picture from Groopdealz that one challenger shared. I HAD to have this vest that I have wanted for over a year (so glad it got popular enough to have knockoffs made! lol!).

I didn’t recreate it exactly, but I LOVED my Old Navy leopard cardigan (sadly, they are almost sold out now, but there’s also this pullover version available in a few more sizes) with the black puffer I got at Old Navy last year. I also added my burgundy pixie pants (color is wine purple) ALSO from Old Navy and my Naturalizer boots that I love more every time I wear them!

Day 19

I think this day was supposed to include the neutral sweater over the plaid, but I decided to go with a tribal print cardigan instead. I liked the subtle print that I think mixed well with the plaid. I was kind of unsure about it when I put it on, but I ended up really liking this outfit. The sweater is the only thing still available (but just in a few sizes) and it’s from Maurice’s.

Day 20

One lone picture of this outfit…and I’m not even wearing shoes! I actually did denim on denim…sort of! I put my dressy sweatshirt on top of my denim shirt to ease me into this. Imagine my cognac boots completing this ensemble! 🙂

Unfortunately I missed day 21! The last day! But it was also an INSANE day when I taught children’s church, threw a birthday party and participated in my church’s Trunk or Treat. I DO have a picture of me and my kids and my sister looking adorable in our Halloween costumes though!

We were literally FROZEN this weekend when it got really chilly for our Trick or Treating and Trunk or Treating! But we had a lot of fun too!

Thank you so much for joining me as I’ve blogged through this challenge! I’ve had a lot of fun and I’ve stretched myself some. I think I’m really getting comfortable enough to change things up when I wanted or needed to and added my own flair to the outfits. I think that shows some growth!

I’ll be participating in a new link up starting Friday with some bloggers I have met through this challenge. So stay tuned! Till then, be sure to check out what some other ladies did in this last week.

Fall Style Challenge- Week 1!

Here we go on a new Style Adventure! This is now my third Style Challenge with Alison at Get Your Pretty On. I love knowing I’m going to be stylish every day and I love getting to put my own spin on the outfits. I also LOVE seeing how other ladies style the same pieces and getting ideas from them through the Facebook group. If things continue as they are going, this may be my favorite challenge yet! “Week” 1 is really just 3 days, but here they are!

Day 1

Day one- I literally thought on Sunday evening- I hope Day 1 isn’t a striped shirt since my favorite one is in the wash. And, of course, day one was indeed a striped shirt! I made do with this one from Old Navy. It’s a recent purchase, but it surprised me when I got it in the mail because I thought it was going to be black and white, but it is black and grey. It was majorly on sale and not worth sending back. It looked cuter than I had expected!

The outfit called for a tassel necklace, but mine is silver and I wanted more contrast, so I added this ladder necklace I got on jane.com this summer. The jeans are supposed to be boyfriend and I just improvised some straight leg jeans I got super cheap at JCP a while ago.

My booties are Toms that I bought myself for Christmas last year! Lol! I love them so much!

Day 2

I had most of this in my closer already, but didn’t think of putting it all together! The scarf (sold out) and boots are both new from Nordstom. I decided to invest in some nicer boots this year instead of my usual cheap ones that just last one season. These are the second pair I tried (Thanks to Nordstrom’s free shipping and returns). Wide, short calves are not easy to fit! These are still a little snug, but should stretch nicely. They are leather and are very comfy.

I love my little military jacket. It’s from Maurice’s last year. I get lots of wear out of it all year long! Black jeans are also Maurice’s from a few years ago.

Day 3

This outfit is just fun! I added a tank underneath and a sweater on top of my GAP plaid shirt (now sold out). It made it a little edgy but also really cute.

My sweater and booties are new from Maurice’s and my jeggings and necklace are also from there but are no longer available. They do have a lot of jeggings right now and I have several pairs from there that I really like.

Chambray Shirt Dress

I started thinking about a chambray shirt dress when I read this blog post from Alison at Get Your Pretty On. I love easy and cute and that seemed to be just what this dress is all about! Dressy enough for my office, but still casual enough for anytime. Of course, like most women I think, I went to Pinterest to be sure I would be able to wear it lots of ways with things in my closet. The answer was a definite yes!

How cute is this for fall?!

And…It works for all seasons!

Next up was my search for just the right dress! I really only looked at two. I found this one at GAP and this one at Maurice’s.

(Maurice’s on right, GAP on left)

I thought both looked really cute, but ultimately I went with the more expensive GAP option because I got a good deal during a 40% off sale and I liked that I could belt it or not and could remove the belt if I wanted to add my own. I also thought it looked a little cleaner and more polished, and since I planned to wear it to work, that was a must. I also liked that I could order a petite size from GAP.

Here’s how I wore it the first go-round!

I topped it with a floral jacket from Maurice’s, some tan booties (a few years ago from Target), and simple earrings and a watch. I thought it was a great office look, but could be casual as well.

I’m so happy with this purchase and I’m sure I will wear it all kinds of ways in all seasons!

I Heart Maurices!

Living in a small town, my in-person shopping options are pretty limited. I’m a BIG online shopping fan, but I also love to actually SEE the clothes and try them on in person. One of the few stores we have in town is Maurice’s. I have been going to this store since I was in Jr High and I definitely think they have stepped up their game in recent years. It used to be a very juniors store, and while there’s still some stuff that I just can’t do, they also have some great clothes. Their work wear section is great and I love their pants and jeans that come in lots of lengths and sizes that flatter my very non-junior, post two babies, body! I see ladies from teens to women in their 50’s and 60’s shopping there, so I think there is a lot of great stuff. They also have great shoes and accessories.

They also have great sales. There always seems to be a BOGO 50% sale with different items in the store, and they send out fairly regular coupons if you’re on their mailing list to. They have good online sales, too, which I use sometimes as well (like if my store is out of my size in something or I missed an item in-store). I just got a 25% off coupon (That is re-usable!) in the mail this week and decided to head there on a kid-free evening to do some solo shopping.

They had a LOT of sweatshirt tunics/dresses in the store and I thought they looked SO cute and comfy that I had to try some on.

This one was a great plum color with some cool faux-leather accents. I LOVE elbow patches and these were adorable!

This striped dress was so cute. Unfortunately it was kind of long for me. But I loved the cozy fabric and lace details!

This tunic was actually my favorite of the three. The kangaroo pocket was really cute and it looked and felt perfect for lounging on a cold night or on the weekend. It also comes in a pink stripe (this one is olive). I didn’t end up getting it this time, but I may have to before my coupon expires!

I didn’t get pictures, but I also tried these two sweatshirts on and really liked them too!

I thought these were SO cozy and are a great way to add a little of some fun trends for fall in your casual wear.

Here are two things that DID go home with me!

This sweater is awesome! It’s such a fun tribal print and it’s in gray, which is a little different. It will go with everything! It’s also very soft and cozy.

I tried it on with a wine colored shirt, which was really cute and made me think of how I could wear it with my wine colored pants this fall. Fun!

The floral baseball shirt is a lot of fun too. It’s very soft and I liked the colors a lot. I might actually do some pattern mixing and wear the cardigan with the shirt. I think that will be really cute. I’m really liking the floral for fall trend that’s everywhere right now. I’ve always done spring and summer florals, but this is a little different.

I also got these pants, which I am wearing in the pics but are hard to see. They are kind of part pants/part leggings. They are nice and thick (no jiggling allowed, unlike some leggings!) but are still super skinny. They are perfect for boots. These come in different lengths, which I love and this pair comes up fairly high to hide a muffin top (not that I would know….lol!).

skinny pants

I got them because I have this pair from two years ago that I have worn just about constantly! They are amazing! These have pockets and button and zipper just like regular pants. They’re wonderful! They also have them in this great wine color with faux leather trim on. If I didn’t have pants in this color already, I would probably have to get these!

There are SO many more things I could have tried besides these. I will definitely have to make this a muti-parter! I love trying new things and sharing the things I find- whether it looks good or not!

What do you think? Are you a Maurice’s shopper? Any new trends you’re trying out this fall?

Work Wear Style Me Challenge- Week 4

The Style Challenge has come to an end and I’m kind of bummed. But, I’m also excited to use the new style tools I gathered along the way to do some fun stuff with my outfits.

Day 13:

The challenge called for a cardigan over a sheath dress with a belt. I love this look! I felt polished and very put together. However, it was on this day that the heavens decided to open and it poured rain basically all day. I love looking good, but I hate being wet and soggy, so I had to change things up!

The polished sheath dress look became a much more casual outfit! But, I loved this too! This leopard cardi is going to be my BFF this winter I’m sure! I layered it over a denim shirt and wore some skinny ponte black pants and ankle boots. I wanted to keep my cute layered necklace, but it was too much with the shirt and cardigan, so I switched it out for a simpler blue necklace.

Cardigan is Old Navy. Denim shirt is JCP. Black pants are Maurices (these are fabulous-SO comfy and skinny enough for boots with no problems, but a nice thick knit- they get tons of wear in cold weather!). Booties are from K-mart (I’m so proud of this fact! It’s not somewhere I shop much at all, but I happened upon these on super clearance this past spring and they are so cute!). Sheath dress is JCP. Colorblock wedges are Payless. Teal layered necklace is Charming Charlie’s and blue one is Loft Outlet.

Day 15

The outfit was supposed to be finished off with a blazer, but I loved my new khaki jacket with this outfit! I felt cute and put together but still casual. The necklace was the perfect pull-together piece!

I need to talk about these jeans for a second. They are a few years old, but they are my old faithfuls! For a long time I stayed off of the skinny jean train because I have large thighs and just legs in general. But I tried these on and fell in love! They are the perfect length for me, fit perfectly (even when I’m a few pounds heavier or lighter than usual), and have a nice wash that’s always appropriate. They’re from JCP and I’ve never found another pair that was just right like these!

My jacket was an impulse buy from Nordstrom (now out of stock). Mix and Match Mama suggested it and it was on sale for less than $30, so I went for it. It’s very cute, but it does have a few issues- it wrinkles really quickly/easily and the sleeves cuffs are huge. There’s elastic in the cuffs, but it’s gigantic around my wrist. I sized up since it’s a junior’s jacket, but that shouldn’t make the cuffs THAT big. It’s still cute and is something I didn’t have in my wardrobe, though, so I kept it. The sleeves are easily pushed up and I usually roll/push up my sleeves anyway, so it was fine.

The top is Old Navy. Necklace from Jane.com and leopard flats from Target.

Just because two outfits were not enough…

I pulled out some pieces I hadn’t worn in a while during the challenge!

image image

I liked the soft flowy top with my bright skinny pants and structured denim jacket. I also couldn’t wait to wear these fun earrings! The colors weren’t something I’d normally put together, but I liked the pop.

Top is from Maurice’s this past spring, shoes are Target and earrings are Charming Charlie’s.

My denim jacket is Kut from the Kloth last year. Here’s a jacket from this year. This year’s colors are different and I like them (but honestly, I like mine more!). I never though of a denim jacket as an investment piece, but I’ve gotten so much wear out of this thing, it’s crazy, and I’ll be wearing it tons this fall/winter too!

Pants are Old Navy pixie pants and they’re my fave! They are on sale for $25 right now, so if you don’t have any yet, this is a great time to buy!

I was running late, so I pulled out a challenge outfit! I went heavy on the pink and loved it! Also showing off my new cognac tote bag from Call It Spring. I got it on sale at an outlet this past weekend and I’m loving it!

Thanks for journeying through this little challenge with me! It’s been fun! I am SO ready to start the fall challenge! Sign up starts soon and the challenge will start in October. I’ll be sure to update my blog with the information when the time comes!

Also, be sure to check out my fellow Work Wear Challenge Bloggers’ last few outfits!

Weekending and JCP Clearance!

I love this outfit! Lots of pattern mixing, but not too over the top. I’d love to add booties and a cozy cardi in the fall!

My top is from Forever 21 earlier this summer, pants are from JCP last year, and shoes are my beloved leopard Toms from last year. I’ve worn them so much, the spots are getting really faded in places! I love Toms!

I also wanted to share some fun finds at JCP this past week. They have tons of summer stuff on clearance right now. I found jeans, shorts, cardigans, and a sweater for just $2.99 and a blazer for $4.99! There’s also coupons online to get and extra percentage off, even above the clearance prices! I found some stuff for my kiddos to save for next summer too. I love getting a good deal!
